Can You Continually Return Used Games to Gamestop

Hi all. I had purchased three games earlier on the week from Gamestop and played them-- after five days, I went and returned them. He said, "You're returning all of them?" I didn't think three games was so drastic, but he continued, "You might get redflagged by our computer for doing that. Be careful."
Is this true? Has anyone ever gotten redflagged for returning too many used games?

I've returned well over two dozen used games in a span of a month and even three 360 Elites in a 2 day period and I've never had a problem. The GS employees just seem to type a little longer each time I returned something, but I guess they won't harass you unless you return games in mass in a extremely short period of time.

But if you sense that they are getting suspicious, I would space out the times for each return or have a friend return the game for you.

I think they told me there's a maximum of times you can return a used game to them. Of course, I don't remember what that maximum was, but I'm sure if you do it too many times you WILL get red flagged.
There ARE ways around this though. For example:

1. PAY WITH CASH ONLY!!
2. Return the games at different times of day.
3. Return the games to different stores.
4. Don't use your Edge card on the purchases.

If you do those things, you shouldn't have a problem.

My girlfriend and I return at least 1-2 items to Gamestop weekly. The people there never even blink. Of course, we also buy triple that amount and we go so often that all the employees know us by name...

While I now see just how shady it is, I thought it was great a handful of summers back. Went through about 12 games in the span of a couple months. Cycled the stores, payed in cash (as Cheapest said). Granted, this was in, what, like 2003 or 2004, so things have likely changed. Honestly, if I had more free time, I might consider doing this again for some games that are short and one playthrough is enough.

You get 7 days, if you don't like it you can return it.

I've only done it a few times (I think 5 times in the past 6 months) and here I was thinking I'm doing it too often.

I've returned three games (during a B2F1) the same day I bought them and no problems there. Then, I returned another set of three games the following at. I did this at two different GS and no problems.

But, here's a silly question. Can I returned a used game, with receipt, even if I peeled off the GS stickers?

I've done that before, during a B2G1 free. It was for a 39.99 set of games I had-- I had second thoughts about one of the 39.99 games, but already peeled off the stickers since I thought I was keeping it. They accepted the return, but YMMV I suppose.
And as far as paying cash goes, don't they request your ID to get your address and stuff? Or is that if you've paid with a credit card?

I don't think there's anything immoral or unsound about returning crappy games that suck to a retailer who has a policy that reads, "If you don't like it, return it within seven days!" Nor should be any sort of "snobbery" to those who choose to "rent" from Gamestop. Consider the fact that Gamestop has a constant hold on the renter's money with it constantly being re-used over and over again at their company, along with the other normal purchases that customer made. It could have even been a small contributing factor to the grossly large amount of money they made last year.

There's nothing wrong with taking advantage of the return policy they have. That's why it is there. It is wrong, though, to "rent" games from them. That isn't the purpose of the policy. If you don't care, that's fine, but don't act like there isn't anything wrong with it. There are companies that rent games. Pony up a few bucks and rent them there.

You do have 30 days to exchange for a defective disc. I have returned many many times. Actually tonight returned 3 games. No problems at all.

I don't do it. Just defending those who happen to do it. I think there's worse things you can do as a consumer.

1) Never said you did anything. I made an open statement. I didn't even quote your post.

2) The "there's worse thing" arguments don't hold water. Just because there are worse things you can do, that doesn't mean the other things should be done or defended. Killing someone is worse than just putting someone in the hospital. Would you defend putting someone in the hospital?

I did that once with a used game or two and even though they scanned the barcode on the receipt, they gave me the FULL NEW PRICE for the game back.

Did I return the extra money? You bet I didn't. Their error was in my favor. It kind of made up(a little) for all of the times I got home to find my 'new' game was really used and beat to shit. Of course, that was before I started demanding ONLY sealed games.

To play the scenario with you, if I had to pick one that would happen to someone obviously being in the hospital would be the better one. I wouldn't compare returning games to murder, though.

I've never had any problems and I've returned a ton of games over the past decade. The only time it bothered the employees is when I returned a bunch of games I bought online to the store, this reflects negatively on the store because they didn't make the initial sale.

yes i believe most stores keep record on how many returns you've made. For example, Best Buy & Target do this. Don't be surprised if you're red flagged in their system. I don't really recommend buying and returning especially at GS they seem a bit more strict.

If your abusing the system just remember that they could change the policy at any time, and if a lot of people are abusing the system, they might just do that. Its intended for people who occasionally do not like a game so they can return it if its really not what they thought it was. This policy is also excellent for children who cannot decide what they want and who throw games down in disgust complaining they are too hard, at least if this happens you are not out the money if you have to return the game.

I used to abuse EB's policy back in the day(Genesis and beginning of the PS1 era), back when they had different prices at different stores in the chain. I'd buy a game from one of their stores, then return it to one 20 miles away and make $20 or so more because of the price difference.

But, with Gamestop, it's like pulling teeth to even return stuff at times. I'd be surprised if I'm not on the system as red flagged from the days of EB still.

That's not even what the topic is about. We're talking about their policy that allows you to return used games within 7 days for basically any reason.

I've returned games, but not because they sucked. Do five minutes of research before you leave the house and not treat the store like the checkout lanes at the grocery store. Ooh, gum!

It doesn't matter what form of payment you use, either. Most places get your relevant info when you do a return. And if you give them bad info, you're actually committing fraud.

Well, I made this topic because I do a lot of switch-eroos come B2G1 free time at Gamestop, for expensive games. You know, store A has first game, storeB has the other two games I want. Give two games from store A for the two I really wanted.
I do like the cash idea because of I ever did indeed get red flagged for that, I can give my girlfriend the receipt and she can help me out. Hopefully it doesn't come to that, though. It doesn't seem like it will given how the other people in this topic have returned way more than me before.

More often than not the GameStop employees actually tell me to try the game and return it within 7 days if i don't like it. They're actually telling me to take advantage of their system.

I've only done this once a couple weeks ago when there was the PS3 used games coupon. Though I actually intended to keep it. Game wasn't what I hoped for so I returned it. Employee even asked me "You didn't like it? Or is there something wrong with it?" and I said "I didn't like it". He said "ok" and continued with the return. Didn't seem like they care much. Though it does sound reasonable that you can be redflagged.
